Guide
Understanding the RAL color standard
-
What Is RAL Color?
RAL is a color standard system founded in Germany in 1927. In this system every color has a fixed code, so when you write the RAL code in a pre-painted sheet order, the manufacturer knows exactly which color you mean, and later orders will match the first one.
-
What does the four-digit RAL code tell you?
In the RAL Classic catalog, the first digit of each code indicates the color family:
- Digit 1: Yellow
- Digit 2: Orange
- Digit 3: Red
- Digit 4: Violet
- Digit 5: Blue
- Digit 6: Green
- Digit 7: Gray
- Digit 8: Brown
- Digit 9: White and Black
-
Why does the on-screen color differ from the actual sheet?
Displays show color with different lighting and settings, and the texture and gloss of the sheet coating also affect how a color looks. This catalog is for familiarization and initial selection; before your final order, match the color against a physical sample or printed catalog.
-
How do you choose the right color for your project?
Consider where the sheet will be used, how much sun it gets and how it fits with the surrounding facade. Light colors absorb less heat and are better for sunny roofs and facades; darker colors are used for details and visual contrast. If you are unsure, consult our sales experts.
